Faculty Profile for Dr Julio Sumar
Dr. Julio Sumar. Camelid Veterinarian and specialist in reproduction, alpaca show judging and education.
Dr Sumar has played a key role in the North American alpaca industry through his expertise and long term experience with camelids. He is currently in private practice as a camelid Vet and consultant in Peru. He is a Founding Director and Principal Instructor of the International Alpaca Judging School in the Altiplano. His qualifications are as follows:

- D.V.M from San Marcos University, Lima, Perú (1963).
- Diploma (F.R.V.C.S – Sweden) Post-graduated studies on Animal Reproduction and Arttificial Insemination, at the Royal Veterinary College of Stockholm (1969).
- Master of Science, from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Uppsala), in the field of Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynaecology (1983). Professional Experience- Animal Health Head (Anti-FMD campaing) at Cusco State, Ministery of Agriculture (1963 – 1964).
- Head of the Artificial Insemination Center in Cusco State, Ministery of Agriculture (1964 – 1967).
- Research Assistant and Auxiliar Professor at the Animal Production Section of VITAR (Veterinary Institute for Tropical and High Altitude Diseases), San Marcos University (1967 – 1971).
- Researcher and Associate Professor at the Animal Production Section of VITAR (1972 – 1979).
